SYNOPSIS: To her father, Amira is the perfect Muslim. She causes no trouble, prays every day and still maintains being a top marked student. But behind her father’s angelic perception is a rebellious spirit. By day, you can find Amira praying in her Mosque and getting A stars. But by night, the other Amira inhabits the world unrestricted by her father’s ideology. ‘The Other Me’ is a short film that portrays the life of a Muslim girl who maintains the fragile balance between her two identities.
SUMMARY: As part of my second-year end of year assignment we were tasked to get into groups and produce a film based on a Haiku we were given. My group haiku was a poem about finding yourself and living two different identities. I wrote the script for ‘The Other Me’ making sure it linked to the Haiku my group was given.
OVERALL: The film turned out well. Before shooting I had managed to research in detail into the Islamic culture so not to be offensive and also add accuracy to the film that relates to real life. I also made sure we had cast a Mulsim actress for the protagonist rather than any other actress so we can best fit the role of the character in our film.
